Hunting opportunities abound in the Meeker area. The White River National Forest is reported to be home of the largest elk herd in the United States numbering about 30,000 animals. Mule deer and antelope are also abundant. The White River Area winters around 67,000 deer.

The State of Colorado has plentiful big game tags available to the public. A wide variety of other game animals are also available.
